As interstellar migration becomes increasingly feasible, humanity will face challenges beyond survival and technology, particularly in maintaining emotional and cultural continuity. **Homeward Memories** is an app designed to help humans repair, preserve, and visualize memories using artificial intelligence (AI). The concept combines present and future elements to create a "Digital Memory and Interstellar Migration" design, aiming to restore and store Earth's memories, helping future humans rebuild their emotional connection to Earth in interstellar homes. The research focuses on how to preserve and recreate memories to sustain emotional bonds and cultural identity, with a particular emphasis on designing cross-cultural interactive experiences that meet the emotional needs of diverse global communities.
The app's core features include AI-driven memory repair, where users can restore damaged photos, videos, and audio, enhancing the emotional depth of memories. Through a 3D virtual home and interactive memory map, users can revisit their hometown and loved ones, using AR technology to "travel" back in time. The AI social companion simulates conversations and virtual dinners with loved ones, fulfilling emotional needs. All memory data is securely stored in the cloud, enabling sharing and social networking. The most innovative feature allows users to integrate Earth’s memories into future interstellar home designs, using virtual reality to create homes that balance cultural depth and technological innovation, ensuring emotional and cultural continuity.
This work not only showcases technological innovation but offers profound insights into the emotional and cultural needs of future societies, exploring how design can preserve humanity's emotional ties and culture amid interstellar migration.
