Glimmers in the Sand was presented on April 24, 2025 at Public Records (Brooklyn, NY) as the first-ever solo headline concert for emerging singer-songwriter Doria (Wendai) Li. Built around a full-band set, the show featured primarily Doria’s original music, complemented by a dedicated jazz segment that included three jazz standards—serving as both an artistic statement and a meaningful farewell to her student years.
The project was conceived as more than a debut concert: it was designed as Doria’s graduation finale, a carefully crafted closing chapter to her student era. As her close friend and the show’s Producer, I wanted to create a stage that honored her musical voice and the way she interprets art—because she deserved to be heard, and to be discovered by audiences beyond her existing circle.
Two creative choices made the concert distinctive. First, we invited a Chinese jazz pianist and composer, Abu, to accompany Doria during the jazz portion, bringing a richer palette and a heightened level of musical sophistication to the evening. Second, we developed song-specific lyric VJ visuals for every piece in the set. For independent singer-songwriters, lyrics are often the key to emotional connection, yet they can be missed in a live setting. By pairing each song with tailored lyric visuals, we helped the audience enter Doria’s narrative world in real time, deepening understanding and engagement without disrupting the intimacy of live performance.
As Show Producer, I led cross-functional coordination across music, tech, and visual teams; conducted venue scouting and advanced with the venue; contributed to poster photoshoot and design direction; produced and printed the show program; created a promotional trailer; oversaw onsite show flow to ensure a seamless run; executed a structured marketing plan with daily content (posters, lyric graphics, videos); and managed post-show settlement.
The concert welcomed 79 attendees, filling the room to standing capacity. After the show, multiple audience members who were previously unfamiliar with Doria asked where they could listen to her music and later attended her subsequent performances—demonstrating the event’s tangible impact in expanding her audience and establishing her as an artist to watch.
