Dreamachine is a powerful new kind of immersive experience exploring the limitless potential of the human mind, commissioned for Unboxed: Creativity in the UK, taking place across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and online from March to October 2022.
Working alongside Collective Act and Team Science, Holition created a suite of technologies that together, capture something ethereal and profound.
The Sensorial Tool involves a series of questions and interactions to collect integral scientific data, while providing the audience with a private, engaging place for introspection and reflection. The tool is a central element of the reflective journey - completed on a handheld tablet device in the reflection space only. It invites the audience to reflect on what they saw, thought, felt and heard - culminating in a completely unique digital takeaway - a Sensory Profile which encapsulates their experience.
The Analogue Drawing Station captures the audience’s sense of expression and communication - encouraging individuals to create a physical piece of art. These drawings were shared out into the space for the audience to enjoy during their visit, and to the wider audience via the dreamachine.world website.
Extrapolating the data from the Sensorial Tool, the generative Data Visualisation juxtaposes individual experiences against a collective, bridging the gap between the digital and physical space. The visualisation was as the cornerstone of the Reflection Space and the visual legacy of Dreamachine, growing and evolving with each participant.
Holition was also an acting strategic consultant on the Perception Census by looking at the individual experience against the social aspect of the experience to encourage further participation and introspection.
Sitting in an area that blends art and science, Holition has always been interested in the notion of Digital Anthropology - exploring the more creative, less rational use of technology, as well as the relationship between technology and the human experience.
These technologies helped visitors understand their own experiences inside Dreamachine, and translate these collective experiences into tangible data that will enable Neuroscientists to conduct this fundamental piece of research that explores the human mind.
