Produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, our documentary ‘Going Circular’ captures Hyundai’s partnership with the marine conservation organisation Healthy Seas and the work Hyundai supports to restore nature’s beauty and improve global health. Captured in a journey through Europe – from Greece to Slovenia and Germany – that shows how one person’s waste is truly another’s treasure. Throughout this journey, we explore how waste from the ocean can be transformed into an eco-friendly resource. Visualized in one story but two formats (serial format & documentary) with two perspectives (investigative/subjective view & meta level/objective view).
Although most of the content of the serial films and the documentary are identical and largely based on the same editing, the serial format and the documentary differ fundamentally in their storytelling perspectives.
1. The three-part serial format is hosted by three alternating hosts who take an investigative journey. They act as narrators who tell the experiences from their subjective point of view.
2. The documentary combines the three episodes into a holistic team journey narrated and connected by a neutral OFF speaker who is focusing on objective facts and conclusions.
By doing so, the broadest possible target audience can be addressed, and the viewer has the possibility to experience the stories again and in a new way, not just in a different composition.
