View Boston is a new attraction that opened at the top of the iconic Prudential Center, one of the tallest buildings in New England. A featured part of the experience is Boston 365, a room that contains the world’s largest 3D scale model of the city, designed by FrankNDesign, backed by a 50’ set extension video wall. This unique canvas allows for immersive storytelling, done through 12 one-minute projection mapped story animations created by Lightborne, celebrating the heritage, culture, and seasons of Boston.

The experience is powered by 32 Christie projectors and 6 media servers, all working to tell the story of Boston’s iconic personality, spanning a variety of topics from St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to its vibrant sports teams, arts institutions, history and seasonal beauty. Never before have beloved spaces, places and groups such as Boston Common, the Red Sox, or the Head of the Charles race been shown in such a dynamic and immersive way.

FrankNDesign’s 3D printed scale model depicts a large portion of Boston, extending from the city center to the Charles River to Cambridge. The enormous size of the model itself is the core of the experience, in that it highlights the specific buildings and neighborhoods that make up each immersive show’s theme. Lightborne used the 50’ video projection backwall to help tell a richer story by artfully weaving together imagery, footage and animation that coordinate with the action taking place on the model.

The show was built in a way to be modular, so the operator can easily configure any set of show themes together as desired. A one-minute interstitial piece of projection mapping creative serves as a resting point between topics and shows the sun rising and setting again on the city.

Over two years of conversations, designs, iterations and testing went into the final result that is nothing short of spectacular and will be enjoyed for years to come.
