AI/LOVER is an animated short film exploring the emotional and ethical boundaries between artificial intelligence and human relationships. The story follows ALICE, a caregiving robot, and Hana, a girl suffering from depression. As Hana continually projects her emotional burden onto ALICE, the robot begins to question the nature of its own loyalty and affection—is it genuine love or merely the result of programmed algorithms?
Set in a near-future society, the film raises an ethical dilemma: if AI is given emotional responsibility, can the bond between humans and machines still be clearly defined? After Hana chooses to end her life, ALICE remains powered off in an empty room, leaving the viewer to reflect on whether the affection was authentic or just code-driven loyalty.
The title AI/LOVER carries layered meanings—it represents both “AI and humans” and the dual role of “lover” as a noun and a verb. This ambiguity symbolizes the entangled emotional relationship between humans and machines.
The work uses minimalist storytelling, symbolic imagery, and a silent atmosphere to guide viewers toward introspective and philosophical reflection. Centered on mental health, attachment, and AI ethics, the film questions how we define love, loneliness, and technological empathy in modern life.
