2026 Miaoli Fire Arts Festival: Iron Flower Show

The annual folk celebration in Miaoli, the Bombing Dragon Festival, takes its name from the Hakka term “Bang,” meaning “to explode.” During the ritual, vast quantities of firecrackers are ignited as the divine dragon dances, with the thunderous bursts symbolizing a wish for increasing prosperity and a flourishing year ahead. For 2026, the event is curated as the 2026 Miaoli Fire Arts Festival: Iron Flower Show, a five-day series of performances that brings together the thousand-year-old Chinese intangible cultural heritage of Da Tie Hua (Iron Flower Fireworks) from Shanxi with traditional Hakka dragon artistry, creating a cross-regional spectacle of fire-based cultural expression.
The overarching concept beautifully intertwines the themes of “Fire and Art.” At its core, the visual typography is meticulously crafted to evoke the dynamic scattering of molten iron sparks. A standout feature of the program is the "Dual Fire Spectacle," which brilliantly showcases a collaborative performance between a renowned Taiwanese theatrical fire dance troupe and the celebrated Shanxi intangible cultural heritage program, Da Tie Hua. As molten iron, heated to a blistering 1,600°C, erupts into breathtaking showers of golden sparks against the night sky, it is seamlessly interwoven with choreographed fire dancing, resulting in an unforgettable visual experience.
