About The Entry

Tongxiao Beach, known for its expansive coastline, fine white sand, and natural tidal landscape, is one of Miaoli’s representative coastal destinations. Under the theme “Blessings from the White Sands,” the 2026 Tongxiao Sand Sculpture Art Festival transforms the beach into an open-air seaside museum, integrating international art, local culture, family participation, and coastal tourism.
International exchange is a major highlight of the festival. Sand sculptors from around the world were invited to Taiwan for on-site creation and an international sand sculpture competition. Through live creation and professional judging, artists from different countries exchanged techniques and cultural perspectives in Tongxiao. Large-scale sculptures explored themes of the ocean, nature, culture, and blessings, while incorporating Hakka heritage and Miaoli’s local identity, expressing the vision of “bringing the world to Tongxiao and bringing Tongxiao to the world.”
To extend the concept of blessings, the festival also featured a Valentine’s Day program combining sand sculpture, the coastline, and romantic settings for couples, families, and loved ones. Kite-flying activities expanded the artistic experience from the sand into the sky, creating a distinctive dialogue between sand sculptures and kites while encouraging visitors to actively participate.
Accessibility and inclusive visitation were also important considerations. Wooden boardwalks allowed elderly visitors, wheelchair users, and people with limited mobility to experience the exhibition more easily. During the day, visitors could explore the sculptures, fly kites, and join family activities, while at night, lighting transformed the artworks and extended the festival into a new coastal visual experience.
By connecting sand sculpture, kites, coastline, culture, and blessings, the festival creates an immersive artistic experience where international creativity meets local identity, allowing Tongxiao’s culture to be seen by the world while every visitor leaves with a blessing from its white sands.
